Camping in the Park is restricted to the Fairhaven campsite on the west coast.
French Island National Park
One third of the island is privately owned freehold land. Camping on private land, with the permission of the landowner, is permitted.
Further accommodation options are shown at:
French Island Local Businesses
Food, water, insect repellent, sunscreen, maps, groceries, gas stove refills and a range of supplies are available from the
French Island General Store
Open fires are prohibited anywhere on the island during declared Fire Danger Periods and are always prohibited in the national park areas.
Open fires at other times are not encouraged due to the highly combustible nature of the local vegetation.
It is strongly recommended that campers use portable cooking stoves.
There are many walking tracks available throughout the national park as indicated here:
Parks Victoria.
You may not have phone reception or access to water.
Take proper precautions and watch out for snakes.
If bitten by a snake, be mindful that they are venomous Copperhead and/or Tiger snakes and you will need to seek help immediately by phoning 000 for the air-ambulance.
For details on Ambulance Victoria membeship, please review
Ambulance Victoria.
And don't forget to bring insect repellant and mozzie nets!
