ELECTRICITY AND WATER

Each landowner is responsible for providing water and electricity to a property.
Water is collected via rainwater tanks and dams. Electricity is produced by a combination
of diesel generators or sustainable technologies like solar panels and wind turbines.

TELEPHONE AND INTERNET
|
Telephone services to the island are provided via a microwave link. To connect the telephone, contact
Telstra. There is a public telephone in front of the French Island General Store.
There are three ways to obtain an Internet connection - a dial-up service using the
existing telephone line, wireless or satellite. Talk to islanders about which service
will be most appropriate for your circumstances and location.

MAIL
|
Mail can be collected from the French Island General Store which is also the Post Office.
Alternately, you can have mail delivered on specific days. There is a mail box in front of the store.

GAS
|
The French Island General Store is the local Elgas agent, where an account can be
established to provide a delivery service of gas cylinders. Small gas tanks can be refilled at the store. The store is also the
local
Elgas Hot Shop
selling appropriate gas appliances including hot water systems,
stoves and gas fridges.

PETROL
|
Evans Petroleum at Leongatha can supply petrol and diesel. They can either fill a
tank already on site or drop off 44-gallon drums. Phone 03 5662 2217 to organise
delivery.
