As French Island is an unincorporated territory the State Government Minister for Planning
is the responsible authority for French Island. The Department of Infrastructure is
responsible for the day-to-day administration of the French Island and Sandstone Island
Planning Scheme and the assessment of building and other permit applications. New buildings
and changes to existing buildings on the island may need a permit and it wise to check.
