LAND MANAGEMENT
|
Being isolated from the mainland, French Island has fostered a unique, precious
and internationally recognised environment which all French Island landholders
and visitors are asked to be aware of and help protect.
For example, French Island is considered to be free of Cinnamon Fungus
(Phytophthora), which can foster root rot in indigenous plants and lead
to their destruction. Therefore, it is important that any new plants brought
onto the island are purchased from a nursery, which is free of the fungus.
Also, many plants grown on the mainland are considered weeds on French Island.
It is wise to check with either French Island Landcare or Parks Victoria when
choosing plants. Weed lists are available from Landcare.
