EMERGENCY SERVICES
|
There is no regular police presence or ambulance service on the island.
French Island has a
Country Fire Authority (CFA)
and a
State Emergency Service (SES)
branch
run by a group of hard-working volunteers. There is one fire engine stationed permanently on
the island, next to the Community Hall on Tankerton Rd. CFA volunteers are able to respond
to any kind of emergency.
In the case of emergency, there are a number of ways in which residents can get help.
|
THE SPECTRUM SYSTEM - 9920 8083
|
When the above number is called, any one of up to 23 people will answer.
They will ask:
-
Are you reporting a fire or an accident?
-
The location of the incident
-
Details of same
-
The caller's name and phone number.
Depending on the nature of the incident, this team will then respond with immediate
first aid, notification of other authorities (eg Air Ambulance, police), and, of course,
fire-fighting capabilities.
|
CALLING DIRECT
|
The following services can be called directly for non-fire related
emergencies:
The Air Ambulance is expensive, so it is advisable to have full ambulance cover.
|
CALLING 000
|
Calling 000 is always an option.
|
FIRE PLANS
|
All bushland residents should have a personal fire plan.
The French Island CFA hosts annual information sessions which give concrete advice
on this topic.
The CFA is also happy to visit individual properties to further aid in the development
of fire plans.
As for all of Victoria, fire bans and other instructions issued by the CFA should be followed.
For more information, contact Maurice Ralph on 5980 1209.
